Easter is rapidly approaching (that hits me every year around Valentines Day) and with it the deadlines for handmade gifts to be started. A few Easter tutorials I’ve seen lately:

Per usual Sew Mama Sew has  a long list of Easter tutorials linked on her blog.

Interested in Easter place cards for your table? Etsy Cottage Style has a great tutorial using egg shells.

Faberge eggs have always had a special appeal to me. This year I’m going to make some with the kids.

Non-candy Easter Basket Ideas

easter, easter basket, gifts, shopping

I limit sugar with my kids so having a basket full of sugar for Easter doesn’t appeal to me. I’ll include a few bits of chocolate and some possibly some jelly beans but mainly it will be toys. Some ideas I’ve culled from forums and websites:

  • Army men inside of plastic Easter eggs.
  • Barrettes and hair clips in eggs.
  • Dimes or quarters inside eggs.
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • Bubbles
  • Sunglasses
  • Jump ropes
  • Toothbrushes/toothpaste (for all the sugar consumed)
  • Hot wheels (not only for the boys, the baby loves to play with her brothers’ cars so I’ve got to get her some of her own!)
  • Puzzles
  • Frisbees
  • Yo-yos
  • Plant to grow (not sure if I’ll do this one or not. After all, we are in an apartment.)
  • Dinosaurs/animals
  • Playdough
  • Shoes (not a normal filler but they both need shoes so this will be in the baskets this year)
  • Books (of course, I never miss an opportunity to give a good book. I’ll hit up the used bookstore and get some board books for the baby, picture books for Dul, and readers for Fin. I’ll also get a few chapter books, I’m thinking especially of Charlotte’s Web and Matilda.)
  • Dvds and cds. I’m not sure how long the delivery will be on the German dvds I want to buy but I’m checking out some ebay auctions with quick delivery.

Fair Trade Easter

easter, fair trade

As you can see by my previous few posts, I’ve set up my Associated Content profile to update here when I publish an article there. I’m writing some poetry now to get my mind off the novel that is sitting, unwritten, waiting for more input. Most of it is somewhat dark.

Easter is about three weeks away so I’m going to start getting the baskets together. On my mind this Easter season:

  1. Some pancake molds from Amazon or Panpals to make breakfast Easter morning.
  2. Some books, cds, and dvds from Chinaberry, ABC Kinderladen. Language Lizard, and Alphabet Garten.
  3. Some puzzles and toys from Oompa. You can narrow it down by toys made in Europe or the USA. Lots of natural, wooden toys here as well.
  4. Fair trade chocolate and gifts from Global Exchange and Chinaberry.
  5. I’m taking some tips from Nature Mom’s Blog (if you haven’t read it, you should!) on having a fair trade Easter.
